Social welfare day in UP as Mayawati turns 55

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati turns 55 on Saturday. The Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow has been lit up on the occasion.

The day is being celebrated as a Social welfare day. The government will be announcing over Rs 4000 crore worth of schemes as well as power projects and a sewage treatment plant.

The BSP government will also be organising mass marriages for the poor. There are also plans to distribute cake and sweets among the masses.

The Congress however alleges public funds are misused to celebrate Mayawati's birthday.
